Hi All,

I could do with some advice, i have just bought myself a second hand Power Shot SD 10 (Ixus i ) off fleabay. The camera its self is like new, but the catch was the original battery is missing. i bought a pair of replacments from the States but these turned out to be made in China and a charge only seems to last about 30 mins tops. Now my question is would a better replacment be say a branded one i.e Uniross, Duracell or would it be best to source a genuine Canon one at three time the cost.

So many answers, so little time!.... Talkative lot you folks . I will rephrase the question. Has anybody had any experience with aftermarket battery suppliers if so which if any are any good?

Well, you posted at an activity minimum (4:40AM in the Eastern US, so nobody's up; and right at the start of the work day in Europe, so everyone's pretending to be diligent). No response doesn't mean no interest. But POTN has 0 paid staff on hand. Everyone here's here on a voluntary basis.

The most reliable aftermarket supplier for batteries that people around here have found is SterlingTek (external link). Good prices and good batteries. Lithium batteries typically need a couple of charge cycles before they develop peak performance, so an initial short battery life isn't unusual. There's also the possibility that the camera has a non-obvious problem and is draining the batteries faster than would be typical. What are your power settings?

Hi Jon,
No offence intended buddy just breaking the ice . By power settings I presume you mean the power saving mode, if so this is set to on and the time is set at 1 min. Also you are right about the batteries coming better after each additional charge as they now seem to be holding a better charge than the first couple of charges. My old Fuji Finepix seemed quite good on battery power usage but with the Canon I have no idea what to expect but 20 to 30mins seems a bit on the lean side. Also the fact that I paid under $5.00 for the two batteries does not fill me with any confidence but I didn’t what to spend a fortune to test the camera initially as it is a used example. Now I have satisfied myself that it is a keeper I would just like to optimise what I have.

P.S cute doggy avitar :)

IDK for sure but I'd expect 1 GB to be safe; 2 GB maybe, but don't bother getting the SDHCc high capacity 4 GB and above.
