Well, another interesting weekend for me. These are ISO 1600, M. I took the initiative to adjust some of the track lighting at the 'venue', so I'd have a little light on the faces. The images look about right on my home monitor, but a bit bright at work (neither are calibrated). I did use NR on these, and a fair amount of levels adjustments. I'm trying to be a little more careful/picky about sharpness. Let me know what you think.

As for the show...these guys are great. Words can't really describe them. 2-8 ended up coming over to my house after the show and recording some stuff in my kitchen...until about 7 the next morning (Super Famicom carries his recording gear in a picnic basket). Haven't heard the final results yet, but I'm looking forward to it! Of course I was taking photos of that as well, but I'm not sure if I'll post those.

Ah, yes, I see ... lovely voice and seems to play well, but when I look into his eyes there is nothing happening! :-) Typical high school kid. :-) Hmmmm, you actually recommend his music?

Well, I wouldn't call him typical, lol. He's sort of a myspace phenom, pretty well known to certian crowds. I'm not usually into people with a schtick, or goofy things in general, but this guys stuff has a deepness and darkness to it that kind of makes the listener think a bit, and I kind of dig that. As a performer, he is great. No one forgets a Super Famicom set. The weird thing is that he basically lives and breathes his schtick...at least, I've never not seen him in 'performance mode'. To certain people...sure, I'd recommend his music. Can't say it is the type of stuff I listen to day in and day out though. Then again, I do have a certain fondness for some pretty stupid music (Beat Happening, Young Fresh Fellows, Mudhoney, etc.).

I'd like to add "difficult", but agree otherwise.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I use Noiseware Pro on PSE5 (which kind of sucks, because I can't batch process), but I set the values lower than the defaults to just take the edge off. I think defaults are around 80% for luminance noise and 70% for Chroma, and I use more like 40/50. I run this after conversion to jpeg, reduction to 1600x1067 and sharpening (USM: usually 200, .4, 0). Zenfolio takes care of the rest of the downsampling.

In shots like #3 where I had to increase exposure (and thus have a ton of noise), I just leave the noise in and convert to B&W. With that much noise, Noiseware (by default) will give you a smooth soft image, a patchy image with noticably inconsistant noise levels in the darker/lighter regions of the image, or really ugly artifacts on surfaces that should be relatively smoot like clothing and walls, etc.

Below is an image that I cheated on, which I generally don't do, but I like to play with stuff. I cloned out a mic stand and it's shadow. Well I'm not very good at that, and the wall looked patchy, so I just selected the wall color and applied some blur to it (basically killing the noise in the process). At a glance it's a prety clean edit, but I'm sure you can find some of my sloppy cloning (I'm still learning). My only problem with this image is the glow around the back edge of his jeans and the guitar from over-use of shadows/highlights adjustments. I could fix that, but didn't really feel like it at the time.

Dag, dude... the cloned pic in post #9 is very good ... These are easy going pics that look good... I don't notice your post processing at all in this last pic... than again, I don't really know what to look for in cloned pics... so far so good, I'd think...

Well it's not like the mic was covering his face. It was over the bare patch of wall between the subject and the tree. The only challenge was the slight gradient of the wall. Also, the mic shadow overlapped the guitar shadow, which you can still see it a bit. Look at the base of the headstock on the guitar shadow.

I can't tell at all, what were the remains of the mike shadow... even after your detailed reference to it... I can't tell where it was...

Not to worry...

I used to clone stuff out using the old simple photo software... Have yet to get into cloning in Photoshop... personally, I need to get on is asap, cause there are lots of pics that should get a touch up...
