i hear you on that. maybe it was a bad choice of PP. or just a bad choice of photo to post. I'll post two more at the bottom of this post. (Posted straight out of the camera, and another shot. similar pose though. i only shot off 24 frames. I wasnt the main photog. Ainoko was. I was just there to lend him gear...LOL.)

thanks! :-)

the st-e2 was triggering ithe nikon.

Actually the Nikon was being triggered by the flashes. A very nice feature I might add.

Gosh, all my gear is borrowed =[Thanks to Lincoln for the lights, and Kent for the lenses, hahaha!

Lighting was:
Canon 430EX @ 1/8 Camera left at body level through an umbrella.
Canon 580EX @ 1/4 Camera right and high through an umbrella.
Canon 580EXII @ 1/16 Back camera right on the background with a gobo.
Nikon SB-28 @ 1/16 On flash slave camera left and back with a gobo.

Shooting was:
Canon 20D ISO 100 1/250 f5.6
I only had 400 speed on my film camera, so I shot a lot and bracketed and prayed. It also only allowed a max synch of 1/125, so I had to convert the exposure on my digital to my 35mm.
Elan 7E ISO 400 1/125 f16
Excited to see how those turn out...

Background was a white sheet from Walmart haha.

I've never actually done any lighting work with more than one light before, but I do a lot of reading. So I finally got to put it to practice, and was pleased with the results.

I'll put up some examples in a few.

Chris, I like that link. Internals are cheaper than externals and when the external fails you buy a new one. When an internal fails, keep the casing and replace the internal.

EDIT: Chris, do just leave the HDs open with this cable? Not cased?

Yeah, you just put the hard drive on something non-conductive like a piece of cardboard. I keep my spare hard drives in a plastic storage box when I'm not backing up data to them.

Some people don't like to handle the bare hard drives too much. If you'd feel more comfortable with a hard drive housing, Apricorn external housings (external link) have a good reputation in the computer hardware forum I hang out in.

ZENGHOST wrote in post #5282502 (external link)
That's cool, Chris--I've been looking for something like that for ages. I hated having to slave IDE drives to see what was on them (I had bunches of them lying around my office that I had to check). I think I like this one, though: http://www.geeks.com …p?invtid=CI-USB31&cpc=SCH (external link) . It does SATA I/II too.

The adapter I linked to comes in aUSB 2.0 to SATA version too. (external link) This one gets recommended quite a bit in the computer forum I hang out in. I have the USB 2.0 to IDE only version but will need to pick up the SATA version soon. Many of the computers I work on have SATA hard drives in them now. I have a Apricorn SATA external housing for that but it's not as convenient.

ZENGHOST wrote in post #5282502 (external link)
I don't know if I could just have the bare drive sitting around.

I was a little nervous about handling bare drives often too (that's why I have 10 external housings...LOL) but it's more convenient to just use the cable adapter and leave the hard drives in a protective plastic box until I need them. I use a Brother P-Touch labeler to label the bare hard drives so I know what kind of data each one holds.

ZENGHOST wrote in post #5282502 (external link)
I used to have another backup HD (I think it was a Maxtor) that would actually overheat and stop working until I unplugged it for awhile--that's why I liked the My Book because it starts up and shuts down with the PC.

The Apricorn housings have a cooling fan in them to help keep the hard drive cool. I have a bunch of Bytecc aluminum external housings that have no cooling fan but I've never had heat problems with them even if the external hard drive is running for hours. I think it's because the aluminum housing acts like a big heatsink.

Do any of you encrypt the data on your externals (or on your internals)? I'm always paranoid about getting burglarized and losing all my data.

I don't encrypt but I do live in a older neighborhood and almost all of my neighbors are retired and a few are really nosey. We also have 3 dogs in the house...one is a chihuahua that loves to bark. And a police officer lives a few houses down from us...he set up the Neighborhood Watch.

And this was what it looked like for 5-10 minutes or so from the bell where I had to wait out the rain:

QUOTED IMAGE

Yep, that's Kaneohe/Kahaluu alright...rain, rain, rain...actually it's been a little dryer this year, hasn't been raining nearly as much as last year.

Nice series of the temple, ZENGHOST.

I havent bought the kit, but straws are used to create a grid. It modifies the light coming out of your flash into a circle shape with feathered borders.
As far as gels, you can use them to change the color of your flash to match the ambient light. You can also use them to change the color of your background or entire scene.

How about keeping a HD with your work at a safe in a bank?
The smallest box is $35/year, so I've been considering doing this.
(...with whatever important papers I have at home).

Looks good John, did you gel any of the backgrounds? How about some hair lights?

EDIT: The Nikon flash is a SB-26, not SB-28. The SB-26 has a built-in optical slave that will trigger off of any flash. Do not use it with a Canon flash on ETTL mode, ETTL sends out a preflash and the SB-26 will trigger off of that and miss the main flash. Manual mode is not problem. Same power as a 580EX and costs about $100-$150 used. They stop making them a long time ago.

i store photos on multiple HDDs. I back them up to other external HDDs using Apple's Time Machine.

How do you like the Time Machine? I read many Pros and Cons at the Apple Store website ratings. Which one do you have, 1 or .5 TB?

They are still displayed at the Canon office until the end of this month. We sent our photos to them with no profiles, so I wasn't to happy with my print.
