Haha now I know who checks my Exif. I edited the exif to throw people off. It wasn't at 1/2500 nor was it at 85mm, and no it wasn't the 70-300

i agree that's just mean spirited. :(

i did find it a little weird that the maximim aperture was f/5.7
O_O

also thought it was weird that you would shoot at 1/2500 at iso400. not something i would expect you to do.

i thought it was my program that was acting weird...turns out it was jsut you. :p oh well. so what;d you shoot it with and at what settings then?

and why change your exif? whats the purpose behind it. not like im gonna go fly to japan to find the sakura you took a photo of just to take a similar photo. O_O

Everyone else - whats your take on exif. hide or no hide, and why/why not? i know you cn view exif on flickr. i think its a cool learning tool to see how others shoot and what not. its more of a technical learning aspect thingy-mabobber. if ppl wanna look at my exif . i say go right ahead. enjoy.

To me a person improves their photography by looking at an image and wondering 'how was that taken'. Having the exif data present removes half of that problem, and all someone has to figure out after that is the lighting. I used to save for web but the colors would come out funky, so now I do this and mess with exif. I dont understand why people look at the exif in the first place though.

curiosity?

idk. people hide things because they;ve got something to hide? shame? idk.

well whatever works for you. you're entitled to your opinion as i am. my question to your musings is Why reinvent the wheel when it's already invented. now, when i look at the image i see shallow dof, and only a certain area in focus, also i see that theres sunlight striking the flowers so probably set the camera to something around.... 1/500s f/2.8 iso 200?

idk.

usually for me if i'm shooting something at UH in the shade with clear skies and good sun... i have it at... 1/125s f/5.6 iso400. nails the exposure for shot everytime.

on another note, they had the potn book 2 essay contest, about what potn means to you as a user. i was going to enter, but didnt get a chacnce to really send anything in. I have felt that, potn was and always has been about sharing knowledge, information, and experiences; About building relationships, friendships, and as PN puts it, networking. About helping others help themselves while helping yourself. A way to interact with differnt people from all over the world, to cross international, cultural, language, and racial barriers. Maybe lately potn has lost sight of that? who knows...I just saddens me a little when i posts that arent very helpful...for example when someone asks a question that could easily be answered by looking at a sticky or performing a short search through the forum or even on google, people still take the time to give them an answer and point them in the right direction. at least thats what i try to do. I see people post things like "dont waste time starting a new thread. just search." blah blah blah etc. etc. etc.

potn isn't about posting whos got a better image, or a better camera, or better whatever. its about helping each other out. if you want competition, ruthlessness, and backstabbing. go to a nikon forum  (oopsie sorry no internal monologue.) oh, if you want to be harassed by an a-hole then go to fh. some guy with the handle: knphotographics is really and @$$ on there. right mr. moderator chrisblaze? LOL.

if you are lucky enough to get a good shot, post it, and share the information. people will be even more inclined to thank you and tell you what a wicked awesome job you did. thats just my two cents. take it or leave it. g'nite to everyone. i should REALLy get some sleep. school is in 4 hours.

After reading all those comments, you should have turned in an essay. :p Luckily, Mr. PJ, your journalism is better than your photos.  j/k we can see your stuff is always getting better.

I do owe a lot of learning experiences to POTN. My processing improved by observing what kind of style attracts more comments and applying them to mine to see if it works. Also those tips on the landscape sticky really work.

i usually try to look at peoples exif just to get an idea of how it was shot, but it doesnt account for filters, PP, distance from the subject, or lighting. The rest of those questions need to be asked. What I don't understand is why some people dont ever like to share that information. To me it doesn't make sense. I mean that's the purpose of forums right? to help others out as well as present your own stuff and how-to's? explainations on how something was/is accomplished.

Is that the concert at UH with Katchafire, Opihi Pickers and Ten Feet? If so I might have to be there to shoot. I would say take your 50mm and blast them at ISO 400 first at around 2.5/2.2 for your ap. I say ISO 400 because I think the ISO noise is kinda similar to the 20D so it might be a lot in shadows at 800. Depending on your distance 2.5/2.2 might not blur too much and you could get some neat things.

I believe that a forum is about helping others and sharing what you know yourself, but exif data really will only tell you:
1. How the photog controlled bg blur.
2. What shutter speed/ISO to overcome hand shake.

To me its like, if a person hasn't read the camera manual since it explains this, looked on google, or just experimented on his/her own to find out what does what, he/she is not motivated/determined enough to deserve help yet. I'm open to answering questions that people have for me, and I hope people could answer the ones I have too. But something like 'Does ISO control sharpness?' could be answered by sitting in front of a object in your room and just moving back and forth between ISO 100 and ISO 800, then reviewing on LCD or on PC. I know everyone on this board has all this basic knowledge already so this doesn't really pertain to any of you on this board.

Ah okay, I wont be at that one since no one's getting me in free.. haha. I'm not sure how close you'd be, but I'd still try go with those settings first. Bring both lens because you never know when you'll need one or the other. Since its at night, I'd say keep your aperture as wide as possible without the blur kicking in too fast, and then just keep raising your shutter speed to a level that will stop their hands from blurring. If you got a monopod that might help a bit too. Make sure you shoot manual too.

Ah okay so you'll be kind of far possibly? Or you'll be trying to get some tight shots just focusing around the body of the guitar or uke? It'd be cool if you could've flashed them at 5hz but then I think someone would be very upset at you.

I have shoot some public events and most of the time I was really close from the stage as there was no sign or just follow the pro around lol

Anyway, I was shooting most of the time at iso 400-800 because of the lighting on stage.

But what said above is true, just try to make some shoots first and fine tune your settings until you are satisfied with them.

2 cameras will help, one with wide angle lens and the other with telephoto.

Hope this helps.

Thanks
