Jun 20, 2008 21:01 | #6424 Samanax wrote in post #5761453 Last night I was going over the pictures I've taken with my XTi. I got the XTi last December and started shooting in JPEG at first. I eventually switched to shooting RAW and became happier with the image quality of my pictures. I recently picked up the EF 28-135mm IS USM lens and became even more happy because I didn't have to only rely on my kits lens anymore. This lens captures pretty sharp images and the IS is really great...I have less blurry shots now. Then I picked up a EF-S 17-55mm IS USM lens and became even happier. This lens really captures sharp images with nicer color and contrast. And of course the IS is making blurry shots less of a problem for me now. So I'm looking over my pictures and I notice that some pictures I was happy with before I now notice flaws that I didn't see earlier and I'm not as happy with them now. The pictures I've been taking recently have a totally different look and "feel" to them, not just because of the better lenses but because I'm using the camera differently (not like a point-n-shoot)...I'm not just pointing and shooting, I'm thinking about the shots a bit too. And guess what? I think I'm actually improving! I think it's been a combination of learning the controls of my XTi, playing around and trying different things, reading a few photography books, reading lots of threads here at POTN and looking at a lot of posted images (both here and at Flickr). Granted, my pictures aren't award winners or anything, but I do know they're better than before and that makes me very happy right now. But a big part of my improvement comes from spending time in this thread and seeing the many great pictures taken by the members of the Honolulu POTN Hale. And it was from all the encouragement I got when I was kind of down and lost interest in photography a short while ago. Your kind words kept me from totally losing interest in this hobby and made me want to pick up my camera again. Of course, new lenses didn't hurt either. So thank you members of the Honolulu POTN Hale...thank you for being there, thank you for your kind words of encouragement...and thank you for posting such beautiful images that made me want to keep shooting (in hopes that my shots will one day be as nice as yours). So thanks to everyone in the Honolulu POTN Hale...you're a great bunch of people! Oh, have fun at this Sunday's meet...I have too much yard work to catch up on (neglected because I was using my XTi instead of my weeder and pruner these past few months). ChrisResearching is good. Post processing is another phase to maximize your photos, Photoshop is the industry standard. Many websites and youtube tutorials are available. I kept posting stuff and observe what kind of processing gets more attention. Reality photos with color tone will get passed by. Enrich color or creative color will get MUCH more attention. Aloha,

I really like the fisheye pictures without the black corners in them...I don't get as dizzy looking at them. This shot is really nice. http://www.flickr.com/photos/samanax/

Jun 21, 2008 01:07 | #6428 Shot today to kill 15 minutes before the next job. It was very windy and the clouds started to slowly moved in on me. I'm above the Pearl City/Aiea area behind me with Waihee Valley to my left. I like the rain captured on the left. I walked to the left to try and capture Waihee Valley, but it was soaking wet and too dangerous. Stitched 20 photos and cropped approx. 20% out. Used a .6 GND. Aloha,
