After doing the Photo Walk this past weekend I've come to realize that I don't what type of photography I'm actually interested in. I'm still too new at this to have experienced all the different kinds of photography but I do know I like taking pictures of my dogs and of other photographers.
I'm drawn to urban shots. I'm not too interested in portraits or landscape shots. Macro photography looks like fun and night/low light photography looks pretty cool. I do want to make a lightbox and do those still life product type shots one day.
But I felt sort of lost at the Foster Botanical Garden Meet...didn't know what to shoot. I felt the same way at the photo workshop assignment session at the Honolulu Festival and during the Scott Kelby Photo Walk...although I did find out I need a longer lens than what I currently have. But I never seem to know what I want to shoot...other than shooting other photographers.
So what kind of photography do you guys like? How long did it take for you to find out what you preferred? Anyone lost like me?
ChrisI like a little of everything (though I haven't quite tried everything yet)--I guess I should say I'd like to do everything. Most of my photos are people shots. Like Norris, I like telephoto candid stuff--I'm really not the type to tell people to gather for a group shot. Most of my candids come at events. My main reason for getting into photography in the first place was to take pictures of my nephew (now nephews). And also like Norris, I started with Nikon (D70) and then made the switch to the 5D for the full frame. My nephews are still my most photographed subject. I intend to get into portrait stuff at some point and I bought my 1D3 in anticipation of my older nephew starting up sports (he's only 3 but he loves sports) so I enjoy that. Many, many years from now I want to try wedding photography but that's way in the future (if ever). I do like landscape stuff and macro stuff and I started off with taking pictures of my knife collection but that still hasn't really developed (haven't worked on that in awhile). Probably something else in there that I'm forgetting.
