Oops. 30D, not 40D. That's what I get for posting after my bedtime.

Still a good body to shoot with. I just have a XTi since I'm a beginner at this stuff.

Thanks for sharing. Kyllie is a cutie. Nice guns too.

Ive been around the art field for awhile, I finally decided to stick with communication arts. :)

I have a Fine Arts degree from UH. Graduated way back in 1980. My job has nothing to do with my degree...LOL...

I can see myself ending up doing something else too. I reallly like graphic designing but at the same time Im learning maya and 3d max. So maybe I'll end up making creating video games or rendering for 3d animation.

So what kind of photography do you guys like? How long did it take for you to find out what you preferred? Anyone lost like me?

:) Chris

First, I take photos of my kids. This was the main reason for me to invest in DSLR. Next would be aerial shots, I'm in a great position for it. Landscape, cars, and small family/friends events. These are what I like to shoot for pleasure. I'll do other types of photography for pay. :p

Wanted to take the photography classes at HCC, but can't get there in time. Is there anywhere else that offers photography and/or photoshop courses? I have Lynda.com CS3 DVDs, but kinda hard to watch with the daughter crying.

Thanks Lincoln, but don't be too impressed. I only went to UH because all my friends were going there. And I didn't know what I wanted to do and thought Art would be the easiest thing to get through...no foreign language requirement...LOL...I was pretty aimless during high school with no real guidance from my parents.

At least you finished the degree. I'm still taking classes to finish mine! It will be useless too, but I spent too much $$ to not complete it.

I forgot to mention, I have no desire to shoot weddings and fashion. Although I'll give it an attempt for family if they want me to. I have no eye for that kind of detail because it does not interest me.

Sorry, I don't have a specific answer for you. I'm kind of a learn-on-my-own kind of guy. Most of my learning has been reading these forums, reading some books, reading some on-line tutorials and most importantly going to photo meets to watch other photographers at work and ask them questions.

I did attend a 1 day photo workshop the other week that went over the basics. The critique from the instructors was the most beneficial for me and I enjoyed the assignment part where we went to the Honolulu Festival to shoot...I got to watch a bunch of other people shoot and then see the results.

The instructors (Darrell Miho and Cory Lum) plan to put on more workshops in the future. Here's the web page for Paradise Workshops. (external link)

Wow, someone else is selling those lenses? There was another guy in Kaneohe selling them the other day on Craigs List (I think you gave the heads up on that one too, Norris).

I have no money for lenses right now :( .

We can vote for the August Photo Contest entries now, right?

:) Chris

Yes, a 70-200 f/2.8 IS is for $1400 down the same list from Kaneohe.

I already voted for the contest. Only 4 entries out of 10 participants and no prize. Not too motivating without a prize.

I dont think there is a photography class at hcc unless your talking about the still imaging class but thats for the CA program. The Lynda.com dvds are good.
