Who's organizing the next one

I originally thought that the winner of the current contest was going to host the next contest and choose the theme...but it didn't work out that way. If you're interested in hosting the next one it's okay with me...all I'd ask is that you be a very active host and monitor the contest closely and keep the members interested in it. I'm not sure how the others feel about it though.

:) Chris

i guess its too bad im a hands off kinda guy.

oh wells. heh.

imho. if you enter a contest you enter cause ur interested. if you enter and then lose interest then thats your prerogative. its not like canon keeps calling people up and saying "HEY! Havent seen your entry yet!"

just a thought. :-)

I have viewed and entered some online contests that had different types of rules. I used the rules that I liked and made it possible for the entrants to judge vs. myself or a small group.

Kent - you were very excited when you volunteered to host it, then immediately loss interest after you posted the theme. The prize could have been anything, but the contest administration was incomplete through the whole period. Lacked administration will result in lacked participation (unless the prize is unbelievable). It is hard to motivate people over the internet vs. a face to face motivation. Updates keep the participants aware of what is going on.

I did take my photo on the last weekend of the contest but had my idea from the beginning and also had to wait for some of my equipment be available to me.

i think what may have contributed to that was that i had to change my theme in lieu of people being a little wary of the original idea.

i was extremely excited about the picture story idea, and i wanted everyone to get their gears turning, but i guess it was too difficult, and therefore it did not draw people towards it...so i changed it...to something quite a bit easier.

The new theme didnt have the same pizzaz that i had hoped for with the original...

well enough excuses.

you live, you learn. it's like Fred Larson says. The best way to learn is to screw up. and screw up quick. Now i need to make sure it doesnt happen again.

===============

I had an idea for the next contest. But i wanted to do my original contest idea, but make it a year long one. Everyone to submit an 8 image photo story...there will be one grand prize for it. a $50 gift card to B&H.

what do you guys think?

A year long is a little too long for my likes. The idea seems more like a project rather than a contest. I think that keeping it simple is the best because of numerous things including the varying degree of experience levels, occupations, schedules, etc....

Has anybody volunteered for September yet? If not then I'll be willing to set it up.

I agree with ishida...a year is a little long. I like the idea of the photo story, but my current skills and understanding of photography/photojournalism (or lack of skills and understanding) would be a big handicap and I probably wouldn't enter at this point. I think I would learn a lot from the experience, but I'd rather work on my basic skills for now. A 1-month contest with a specific theme works better for me at this time.

I don't think anyone has volunteered yet...I think we're waiting to see who the winner of the current contest.

A year long is quite a long time. Most would probably finish it on the last week. Some of us may even lose interest in POTN or photography.

I haven't seen anyone volunteer for it, so go for it!

Remember that Cabin shot I posted awhile back? That is the area where I drop off the UH guys that monitor snails.

Anyway, here's a mediocre shot on the Koolaus with some time to kill. Likiliki and Pali saddles in the background.
