This is a weird question, but I thought maybe one of you guys might have an idea for a place that holds maybe 150 people for a retirement party that would allow us to bring our own food and wouldn't be too expensive (but would also be nice). I'm trying to help plan this party for the end of November and they really want to cater from a specific place but don't have a place yet. Any ideas? I'd say that it'd be way easier to go somewhere that already caters, but they're sticking to the outside caterer for now.

+1 on the DAV at Keehi. The only other places I know of is in Mililani, if you know anyone that lives there, the rec centers are nice.

As far as catering, there are alot of places. My favorite would be Mililani Golf Course Restaurant, aka Alonzo's. Others would include, Sugoi Catering, Ige's, Masa's Cafeteria.

Good luck

The best places for that situation is a recreation center. Maybe the DAV at Keehi Lagoon Park? How about asking the caterers to suggest a place?

We checked with the newtown rec center but they require $180 plus $217 for a special duty police officer if the event is in the evening. Still need to check on some other rec centers. Asking the caterer is something I hadn't thought of. I'll look into the DAV.

Thought of the Okinawan Center but they require Zippy's catering and they really want to use Fukuya. The Okinawan hall is a nice place, though, I just had a luncheon there a few weeks ago.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

ps...with any luck, I'll be picking up a new lens tonight  (I'll also be a thousand bucks poorer, though  ).

Newtown sounds cheap.... DAV will be at least 1K.

New L glass is like a new body, new types of photos... Nice!

Right now I'm rebuilding that computer with the fried hard drive and motherboard and while taking everything apart I noticed that there is a dust filter behind the front air intake section of the case. I pulled the filter out and saw this...nice...

The dust accumulated in front of the intake fan and essentially blocked any cool air from entering the case. I think this caused the computer to run hotter and hotter as the filter got more and more clogged and eventually led to the hard drive and motherboard getting fried. Just a theory, but it seems reasonable.

After I rebuild the computer I'm going to have to show the owner how to clean the filter and to make sure he understands that he has to do it regularly (at least monthly) or this new computer may suffer the same fate as the old one.

If you guys have desktop computers make sure you clean the dust out of them regularly. I clean all 3 of our computers every other month. I don't use or believe in filters...they clog up too quickly.

:) Chris

That looks like the filters in my vacuum cleaner  The area around your computer must be super clean... or at least dust free :D

I think Rec V (the big one on Ainamakua) has a special duty HPD clause too. My wife & I just went to a party at Rec I and parking wasn't bad at all. I think about 180 people attended, but I'm poor at judging head counts.

Actually this isn't from my computer, it came out of a computer I'm rebuilding. The owner is the brother-in-law of one of my co-workers. The hard drive and motherboard got fried and I'm thinking the computer was overheating because no cool air could get into the case through this thick layer of dust. In fact, a lot of the computers I work on aren't cleaned regularly by their owners. Most of them have a nice thick layer of dust over the front air vents. Gross. This may be the last computer I fix...I'm tired of working on other people's computers.
