When the 40D finally makes it to the market, we're all hoping that it has the Digic III processor. If it does, I wonder what type of improvements we'll see, especially in the buffering.

While I'd love for the 40D to have dual Digic III image processors like the new 1D MkIII, I seriously doubt that we will see that. Two processors would take the 40D out of the pricing zone that it is targeted for. So it's likely to have only one image processor.

I wonder what the capabilities are of a single Digic III?

I think they used two processors, so that they can get the 10 fps. You let one processor handle camera functions, such as writing to memory, focus, etc. and let the other processor handle the CMOS and image processing.

No more mag-alloy for 30d replacement. Part of Cost cutting measure. :(

I hear that in order to cut cost, they ship without a sensor. Canon was able to drop the price down to an awesome $339.95 and add eye control focus point selection. By eliminating the sensor, however, a tube with an emulsionified substance rolled onto a spool and crossing behind the shutter is required.

Well I have a friend that knows a guy who delivers packages to a guy who works with a lady that serves sandwhiches to a employee of Canon. And word on the street is that the 40D will have the newest chip. The DIGIC 3-d-niner. I hear it is supposed to be one bad mamma-jamma.:p

Kidding of course, the 'niner' version wont be out till next year.

felt like bein silly

How've you come across that? Doesn't sound plausible to me; name a non-entry Canon DSLR with a plastic body!

Dropping mag-alloy for 30d replacement is called a Canon EOS Rebel. It will be a big mistake if Canon drops mag-alloy. They might as well eliminate the sensor with a tube that has an emulsified substance rolled onto a spool and crossing behind the shutter. This excellent sensor replacement comes from a reliable unnamed source. :D

gee. I can't wait for this guy. I'll expect 6400 Min at todays 3200 quality. From What Im reading the rumors, the 3 sounds like adream, 5fps, etc. We all read them, no need to reproduce. But I f I were going to spend $3k on that 3d, I would wiat until the Mark III Came down to ATLEAST $4K.

6400 Minutes is way too slow for digital. We used to have film labs in town that could process and print film in 60 minutes, but they went out of business for lack of customers.

;)

Going on what we've seen seeing with the xxD series, I suspect it will have a digic III from the 1D series, probably have ISO upto 6400 and maybe even a 3 inch LCD (Just as 1DMii/N came with the first 2.5LCD and the digic II if memory serves me right).

I think it'll continue to have 5fps, about 11 RAW buffer, the new 10MP sensor in the XTi, anti dust sensor, and Magnesium body. The price will probably be about the same at $1299 for the body. As for one vs. two chips, I believe that only affects the buffer speed and size and not with the image that it produces. I suspect the 40D will have one.
