I was thrilled when I read about the upcoming release of DPP 3.0. Finally it's here and I installed it. I processed several sets of photos through it and quite frankly, I think Canon rushed it out the door. It's pretty buggy. Here is what I don't like about the new features:

1.) When double clicking on a thumbnail for editiong, the editing tool palatte floats, there is no way to make it dock.

2.) Not only are my preview thumbnails extremely blurry, but when I double click one one, SOMETIMES the enlarged image is pixelated. The only way to get rid of the pixilization is to double click on the image again enlarging it to 100%, then double clicking again to reduce the size.

3.) It's nice that they added a NR tab to choose NR for an individual image, but now there is no was to apply NR to all images simultaneously, other than using a recipe. I prefer a global option that can be toggled on or off.

I uninstalled 3.0 and re-installed 2.2. Maybe Canon can get it right with 3.1 ;)

1) Hit Cmd+right arrow (probabely Ctrl+arrow on PC). This will take you to the edit window. In the prefs you can set the palette to float or dock.

2) DPP now draws the screen in 2 steps: Very coarse (as allways), then finer (didn't do that in previous versions) then final. Seems faster, but you still have to wait the same time to get the 'real' image...

3) If you set the preferred amount of NR on one image, then click Cmd+Opt+C, return to main window (Cmd+left arrow), hit Cmd+A (select all); Cmd+Opt+V. You've just set a 'global' NR to all images....

Thanks Rene, I'm going to have another go at it. I just realized if you have "select all" ticked and open the tool palette while in the main window- you can apply settings globally, including NR, sharpening, etc.

One thing with the installer though. I wanted to install 3.0 into a different directory so I can keep 2.2, but the installer overwrote the 2.2 installation and installed into the default c:\program files\canon\Digital Photo Professional anyway.

I installed 3.0, and wanted to revert to 2.223 to check out some color differences between DPP and PSCS2. (Never noticed in DPP2, did notice in 3. Appears they have been like that all along).
I had to copy the Digital Photo Professional directory to an external drive, and delete the original before I could install DPP 3.0. Renamed the folder Digital Photo Professional3, so now I can run both.

I can try that, but Windows has a clever little invention called the Registry. I know you run a MAC, but I can't just rename a directory and hope to use a program within it. Who knows, maybe DPP doesn't rely heavily on the Registry.

I just edited another batch of photos with 3.0, and I must say with the new features explained, I think I may like it better. It's definitely faster than 2.2. It will just take an extra 15 minutes to get used to ;-)a

1) Hit Cmd+right arrow (probabely Ctrl+arrow on PC). This will take you to the edit window. In the prefs you can set the palette to float or dock.

I set the "Tool palette display in Edit Image Window" to "Docking display" and "Tool palette display mode" checked the box "Same for Main window and Edit window". It turned out it does dock in the Edit Image Window but NOT on the main window.

Is it just me? Anyone have luck with setting both edit and main window to dock?

thanks

Nope. I use it floating in my setup. Like that way better (tool palette on 2nd monitor)

Tried but could not get it to dock in the main window. Then again: I *never* use the tool palette when in the main window, and I don't double click a file, I select a bunch, and click Cmd+right arrow.

IIRC DPP 2 had seperate tickboxes for main and edit window to select 'floating' or 'docking' tool palette...
