Dachbean you beat me to it! I suggest the OP look at some of the crumplers in the X million dollar home series or the Brazillion dollar home. The million dollar homes series are shoulder bags with designs similar to the diagram posted.

More info | Corey, i was just at our local Target and in the men's section, they had a messanger bag that might make a good design or even something to start with...it was only 19.99...nice brown canvas color...Not sure if they are everywhere..but..you can check it out. it may make a good pattern.
