You can take these (or any lens) into sprinkles/drizzle (or snow) without issue. You don't want them to get really wet though, like in a real rain. The weathersealed lenses can take even more abuse and fend off dust much better also. I've shot in a downpour with the 1D2N and 70-200mm f/2.8L IS.

The ONLY "complaint" I have about my 35mm f/1.4L is that it's not weathersealed. I don't shoot full frame so it's my "standard 50mm" lens. If I shot with a 1DS and had the 50mm f/1.2L I'd be in heaven. But that's what the L zooms are for.

But don't let any of this stop you from picking up either of these lenses. They're fantastic in every sense of the word, and relax - a light rain won't kill your parade.

Here is a complete list of all weather sealed (DW-R) lenses:
16-35 f/2.8L II, 24-70 f/2.8L, 50 f/1.2L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS, 70-200 f/4L IS, 300 f2.8L IS, 400 f2.8L IS, 400 f/4 DO IS, 500 f/4L IS, 600 f/4L IS.
The 24-105 f/4L IS says "Tight seal structure ensures excellent dust-proof and drip-proof performance." but does not carry the "DW-R" designation.

While that might help keep water out of the body, if the lens itself isn't weather sealed, you'll be getting water into the lens itself. Considering it has a lot of sensitive electronics and precision motors, I wouldn't be taking those lenses into the rain.

You can wrap them with plastic wrap, shrink wrap, lens coat, neoprene or a plastic bag with the end cut off and two rubberbands.

A condom...

Yes, missed the 17-40. I'm using the Spring 2007 EOS system guide which does not include the Mark 1.

i can vouch for the 70-200 2.8, today i got soaked, had a bag over my head covering the 30D but the lens was damn wet and it performed the same as it usually does, perfect, today alone i think paid for the purchase.

Ooo I might have to invest in a couple of those for my big Sigmas, the only real let down with those is the lack of weather sealing

Is the 100L weather sealed? I thought it was. Not sure how big of a deal it really is for most. I would bet they could all handle some poor conditions without issue.

Yes, the 100L is weather sealed. Kai from DigitalRev did a video review (on YouTube) of the 100L and non L and poured a bottle of water over the 100L attached to a 5D2 and it still worked perfectly with no water ingress. Impressive!
