Hi,

This may be a slightly dumb question but here goes:

Will and image saved and printed in "M" quality at 8x10 have the same quality as an image saved and printed in "L" quality at its maximum print size?

The reason I ask is that I am going on 2 weeks of vacation. I have a 2G and 1G card and want to maximize both quality and number of shots. I rarely print larger than 8x10. I normally save in "L" quality (either JPEG and/or RAW).

Thanks for not laughing.

George

Hi

Somewhere on the web I found a matrix that showed the usable resolutions at say 200dpi and 300dpi for the size of prints. So without checking the XTi manual I have no idea what resolutions each setting creates so cannot give yuo a definitive answer ~ if I can find the matrix I will post a link. For myself with my 350D I would not sacrifice file size for quality I have bought more memory cards.

Found the link here http://www.dpcprints.com/help.php?faq_id=61 (external link) for 8x10 at 300dpi you will need a resolution of 2400x3000

HTH

:)

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

I don't understand what you're asking.

If you're trying to save card space, you're much better off to shoot in 10-Megapixel JPEG/Normal than in 5-Megapixel JPEG/Fine. There is no visible difference between Normal and Fine quality settings, but at larger print sizes you might see the difference between 5 and 10 megapixels.

If you're really, really, crunched for space, you could use 5-Megapixel JPEG/Normal. That'll give you over 200 ppi at 8x12, which is still considered quite acceptable by just about everyone. But jeepers, CF memory is so cheap these days that it seems a bit silly.

Doug,

Thanks, you have answered my question, even thought I didn't ask it well.
