Thunder Mustang, that is. A lovely wee beastie of a machine seen last weekend at the Omaka airshow in Blenheim.

here's a question for the 100-400 brigade: with IS mode 2, and 20D on AI servo, what's the normal ratio of out-of-focus shots on panned A/C shots? I find the first shot in a sequence done like this is well focussed, the next shots after that are rarely anything like sharp - is there anything I should be doing differently to get better?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I went on the Sunday on the way to Kaikoura. Great weather. Saw loads of 1D and several HUGE white lenses.

Two things I'll take from the day. ALL the pilots kept in perfect sync. Also, turn down the shutter speed otherwise you stop prop motion. Although number 2 helps prove number 1. See how in sync their propellers are !! OK, maybe not the team leader.

This is something you'd never have seen in WW1. The Italians attacking and not running away. (No offence to any Italian POTNers, honest)

My personal favourite from the day. 50% luck, 50% timing. Almost like a real dogfight.

Some great shots. I really like the prop jobs, better than the jets. The jets have power and thundering noise, but the prop planes kind of dance in the air. The last picture does look like a dog fight.

The OP puts up 2 pics & tag puts up 4. Were you guys there together, or is this a hijack?

When you shoot sequencing with IS on, I think the IS system loses sync when the mirror is flipped up as the shot is taken. I get a lot better results shooting single shot, and half re-pressing the shutter for a 1/2 second or so before each shot. I don't know if that is the way the IS is supposed to work, or if it is just me moving the camera too much when I press the shutter.

Tag, I'd have to try the last one in B&W and add a little graininess to it. I think it would look real cool.

lovely shots all

I've not got the 100-400 but (I have the 24-105)but the image stabilizer should be off when panning / moving the camera as it will not be fully effective
or if you are taking shots riding on a bumpy road.
the Image Stabilizer cannot compensate for a blurred shot caused by a subject that moved

also, more power is consumed with an IS lens compared to a normal non IS so fewer shots can be taken
lots of shots in sequence would be a small problem... I guess more charged up batteries need to be at the ready

:)

It never hurts to spend the $12 for spares, but I've shot about 1/2 day with the 100-300 & had no problem with a 1800 mAh battery.

I don't know about an 1800 mAh battery Frank
except I guess its what your camera needs
(and other people's here)

I have four BP- 511A's altogether

the main reason why I went for the 300D instead of the 350D camera was because it uses the same batteries as the G2 and the Pro1
and I wanted to go on using them.
the batteries are pretty expensive but four should do me for a long time:cool::)

It will fit your camera, except that it has more power. I have 3 extras, too, & can't remember ever using the spare since I bought that one.
