I just read this article on the making of the movie 300. Was wondering if any of ya knew anything about getting that look throught PS. Here's some of the article. The technique is called "The Crush"

"Snyder had the idea of manipulating the color balance to create a process that was ultimately nicknamed “the crush.” “Zack developed a recipe where you’d crush the black content of the image and enhance the color saturation to change the contrast ratio of the film,” Jeffrey Silver explains. “Every image in this film went through a post-image processing. The crush is what gives this film its distinct look and feel.”

"crush the black"? In levels or curves? Not sure what that means.

Thanks all

There are many ways to achieve similar effect. One most popular of all is Draganizer, you might check ATN central for an action set that can help you play and get some stunning effect. The other, much simpler approach to the technique is explaind by Dave Cross from photoshop tv. Here is a video tutorial on the technique *link* (external link)
I hope this helps, but further you investigate and play, further you get with general idea.
Cheers
Vlad

I remember from the HBO first look at 300 that the director called it their "Crush Effect" maybe that will help in your search.

You might also look for articles about Sin City, uses a similar but different technique. I suspect Grindhouse does too but have not seen that yet.
