Everytime I plug my USB flash drive into my comp, Lightroom opens up automatically. How can I disable this?

If it is a mac, you can fix that by changing the preferences in Image Capture. Don't know how it works on a PeeCee.

Or, if you want to keep the photo downloader active, set Lightroom to ask you what library it wants to open before opening. That gives you a small window to dismiss when it finds something new with images rather than have it open up completely.

Strange, I've just plugged a memory stick into my USB hub, and it opens it's contents for viewing.

I then inserted a CF card into the reader, and it launched Lightroom, along with the import window?

I have the Adobe Photo Downloader active in my system tray (on Windows XP)

Mine works the same and I prefer it that way. Maybe there are options of what type of media launch Adobe Photo Downloader.

The only auto-import optioons I can see is under Edit->Preferences->File Management where there's an option labelled:- "When memory card detected" and a drop down which allows either "Show Import dialog" or "Do Nothing" (?)

From the Adobe Knowledge Base:

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Install the Photoshop Lightroom 1.1 update.
Download and install the update from the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/downloads (external link).

Solution 2: Turn off the Adobe Photo Downloader start-up item.

  1. Right-click the Adobe Photo Downloader located on the far right of the Windows Task Bar.
  2. Choose Exit.

Note: This turns off the Photo Downloader for your current Windows session, only.
Solution 3: Turn off the Adobe Photo Downloader permanently.

  1. Choose Start > Run, and type in msconfig. Click OK. Choose the Startup tab.
  2. Uncheck apdproxy. Click Apply, and then click OK. Restart Windows.

I havn't been able to update yet (I get a "Site Area Temporarily Unavailable" everytime I try to reach the d/l) but I've done number 3 and it still starts. Yes, I've restarted windows and yes it's still unchecked and yes it still loads!

So for now I'm stuck at number 2 which, of course, is less than optimal.

What would be the process for re-enabling autostart? Recheck it?

Apparently I never posted this; but the above did not work on 1.1 either. The "loader" still starts with Windows XP. Very annoying!

I noticed that Lightroom added another instance of apdproxy to the startup tab once I upgraded. Now that I've unchecked that one it seems (after one reboot) like I finally got rid of the downloader.

if you're using a mac, go to 'applications', then 'preferences' and switch it off...
