Would you experts take a look at my shopping cart for my new computer and make any recommendations for change. My stepson in going to do the actual building when he comes to visit.
I have not decided on a graphics card yet. We don't do much gaming. I plan on getting the Apple Cinema 20" monitor. I have not decided on the dvd burner yet either.

I am going with Tiger direct because I will get a discount through work. Any input would be appreciated.

Nope, couple of things wrong. First is the motherboard is the wrong type - you've selected a socket 939 motherboard, whereas you have to get an AM2 socket motherboard to use that CPU. Second you don't need RAM with LEDs, get decent quality RAM but you don't need special ultra-fast RAM. That RAM you've selected is out of stock anyway. Get some Kingston RAM of the right type, I use their value-ram which works fine.

Honestly i'd recommend ditching the self build and getting a Dell with an Intel Core 2 duo processor. They're faster and you'll get support, which is important especially if you do any photography for income. Diagnosing problems with self-build machines is for experts, relatives can let you down despite best intentions.

Looks fast enough. You might consider doubling the memory. That will speed your machine more than any other single thing.

case/psu is not going to good enough for that cpu/mobo setup...make sure you have at least 30amps on the 12V rail.

just a quick glance...this psu is better than the generic POS you would be getting:

Just want to re-emphasize that that machine won't work due to the CPU/motherboard socket mismatch. Like trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

Thanks guys. I did look at the Dell's and can get what I want there at a decent price with 6% discount thru work but I don't want Vista. I went thru their configure and it doesn't offer me the option of Windows XP. I repeat " I am scared sh**less of Vista.

Apple is not entirely out of the question.

Thanks Titus. I am not interested in Lenova, HP, Compaq or Gateway. I just don't think these companies make a quality product.

I called Dell today just to see if it was possible to get Windows XP. Her haughty reply was that it was not possible and I didn't have any choice because all new computers now had Vista. I said "Yes, I do have a choice. I can build my own".

I just hate it that the choice in a new computer has been taken away from us.
