I am new to LR 1.0 and my question is about the use of the Library. I store my photo on external hard drives.

Are the images I see in the Library taking up additional storage space. In other words are they stored on my external hard drive and again in the Library

You can set Lightroom up to just search for pictures in their original location. In that case, the only space taken up is for the database and thumbnails (in my case, 22 000 photos add up to a database of 265 MB and a 3.2 GB database)

If you do this will the thumbnails still show in the Library?

And if so how do you set up this way

How did you "import" your photo's into Lightroom?

If you selected the "import from their current location" you shoul dbe fine. Just remember to always have your USB drive switched on, otherwise the thumbnails will display, but they will have a question mark in the top right hand corner as they can't "see" the actual file. Clicking the question mark will ask you if you want to "locate" the file (incase you moved it outside of Lightroom)

Also, bear in mind that the "beta" version and the V1.0 display different options when importing from a card. Adobe have changed things between the versions.
