What does it mean to have a lens calibrated?
Whats the process involved?

My copy of this lens was froont focusing a touch. I sent the lens in to Canon at the Irvine Service Center. They recalibrated it to where it focused where it was supposed to and sent it back to me. It's been my walk-about lens ever since. Stays on my camera about 75% of the time. BTW, it was under warranty so it didn't cost me anything other than the shipping & insurance to get it there.

I loved mine when I had it with my 300D and EF-S 10-22. One of the most functional setups I've ever had. But those were simpler times, and my need for speed has increased sense then.

Yes...this lens has a variable aperture with respect to the focal length. At 28mm it is f/3.5 and f/5.6 at 135mm.

I wonder what lens people are using that is such poor build quality. I have had a 28-135 for ages and it is a very solid, very reliable and generally pretty good lens. I have some much better lenses available to me and yet there are times the 28-135 is just the ticket. The copy I have is very sharp...with one caveat....if you put a UV filter(regardless of quality) on it, the image quality goes right out the window. Don't ask me to explain why, but my experience shows this lens does not like to have a filter.
