Hi,

I've got Lightroom installed on a Powermac Desktop and love it. Can I also install it on my laptop PC (a Dell running Windows)? Anyone install it on two different platforms (won't be used at the same time, so shouldn't be a violation of any agreements).
Thanks

Lets say that I have LR on a desktop and laptop. My main library is on the desktop. I go on vacation and take the laptop with me. I import files to the database on the laptop (or should I have copied the database from the desktop to the laptop?) and edit the photos. When I get back how do I move the files/folders/database? Is there a merge function?

I think the best way might be to copy the desktop database to the laptop (when the laptop is running LR the folders will be red since it can not find them), then import photos to a new folder on the database and edit them. Then when I get back hook the laptop up to my network, copy the files and database back to the desktop.

OR since I am using DNG does it matter? If I just Import the images from the laptop to the desktop all of my edits come anyway.

HELP!!!

1.1 should address this.

after being in the field, i would export as DNG's and reimport them into the mail library, or just keep a library for each shoot

Hopefully 1.1 comes out before I go on vacation.:) Otherwise I should be OK and figure something out. I might just not edit anything while on vacation (probably won't have time anyway, but thought I would ask just in case).

if you export as DNG and then import into your main library it should be all good, keywords, edits and all will be fine.

or just go to metadata, xml, write XML then just copy the images to your main drive and import, then it will be as if you did it on your main drive

If I import by Copy and Convert to DNG then I should be fine already, right?

doesn't matter how you import, its just making sure that the changes are written and all that you did is kept, and if you export as DNG or write the XML data, it'll keep that info

Thanks for the reply. Guess I'll go install it right now. Also good to know about moving things between laptop and desktop. Any hints as to when an update/patch will be coming about for the problems with Lightroom (problems and all, I really like it. It makes working with RAW files much easier and smoother)

apologies for reviving an old thread, but with the advent of 1.3 (although i don't think there is the difference in 1.2 to 1.3 that is relevant) can you easily synchronise data bases between lap top and desktop with out individually importing stuff. Should i be importing as DNG on a side note any thoughts while answering this question?
