Friends young son, Rufus, superb blue eyes, this was just a snap without looking through the viewfinder just before he tried to touch the lens. Seems quite cool to me with the bokeh and half a cute face. Canon 50mm f1.4 1/200sec 400 iso.

cheers
Ali

Cubix

bokeh is the out of focus effect of using a large aperture (small aperture value) in this case f1.4, there are quite a few good threads on bokeh, if you do a search.

cheers

Actually what you see is a shallow depth of field. Bokeh is the quality of the out of focus area and is therefor completely subjective. Generally speaking better quality lenses give more pleasing bokeh.

The DOF is quite nice here and is very smooth and creamy. Which is what is expected from the 50/1.4 I believe. My 50/1.8 produces bokeh too, it's just ugly (IMO).

From the Luminous-Landscape: It is a Japanese word meaning, roughly, "fuzzy," and it is used to describe old people with cobwebs in their heads among several other things:D
