IR Bridal Portraits

Had a big wedding this weekend, but we did some bridal portraits of another client too.

I was the second shooter, so for these I just played with my IR converted 20D and the 24-70mm f/2.8L. I haven't used the camera much and figured it was a good time to play with it. The photographer who hired me to shoot the wedding with her didn't need any help with these shots.

I missed focus on most of them because of the IR shift, but overall I was pretty happy with how that lens performed for these. Just have to get used to shifting focus!

Anyway, here it is...comments and critiques always welcomed. The first is converted to B&W, some softening and some levels tweak. Second is out of the camera with a little saturation boost.

One more...focus was way off. I guess if I was taking a photo of the palms I would have had it made! (other than the focus issue, I'm happy with how all of this works.)

Really like that last one, Jason! You should've claimed it was selective focus to keep the bride soft and to accentuate the contrasting surroundings. I would have bought it!

Hey thanks all! I have a lot of learning to do with this conversion, but it's going to be fun. And it looks like the 24-70 is going to be a good lens to use with it...just remember to shift the focus!

Focus problem or not, #3 is a stunner!!! Makes me want to buy another body so I can get one IR converted.

never seen this done before on bridal shots but they really work!

Honestly, for some reason these just don't appeal to me, the IR I mean. I've seen some IR landscapes are very unique, but for some reason IR for portraits just doesn't seem to work for me.
Great shots otherwise though!

It's nothing new, but I do like the image with the palm trees. I think showing the bride in this type of setting and shooting IR is so cool! In May, I'm scheduled to shoot an outdoor wedding, so I think I'll dust off my Hoya R72 filter.

They did a great job and turned it around lightening fast.

I had a 20D collecting dust. It was $350 which I think is expensive, but the camera is getting use a bit now.

thanks again everyone...IR is definitely a love it or hate it type of photography. I like it, but have a lot to learn!
