IIn Owner Focus Question

Quick question kinda outta pure curiosity.

Hypothetically, lets say I put a my hand over the lens so the camera cannot achieve focus, so the camera will tell the lens to goto infinity, then from infinity back to full "macro."

Now, on an XT, there would be about a half second pause between arriving at infinity, and then beginning to come back to full macro.

So the question is, does this pause exist on the Mark IIn? Or does it IMMEDIATELY begin returning to full macro once its reached infinity?

And I guess, same question for 30D, 5D, 1Ds bodies too.

yes..it excist...

I believe it depends on the lens. For example, my 24-105 goes 'back the other way' a hell of a lot quicker that my 50 1.8.

Interesting... it felt to me like all my lens had the same delay before they began returning to macro, cause intuitively that's a decision made by the camera.

What about like a 70-200 2.8 + IIn combo?

If you don't want the camera to focus all the way in and then all the way out (or the reverse, I forget which) like that when it can't achieve focus, you can set a personal function so that it doesn't do that. It'll flash the focus confirmation light right away so that you can try to focus the lens manually instead of waiting for the camera to get done with it "focus in;focus out" routine.

Some lenses also have a focus range limiting switch to speed up the back-n-forth if you know you'll be shooting subjects at a distance.
