Maybe I'm being picky...

Hello all,

Another "banal" question.

Why, for those of us who have an S3 and have purchased a lens converter, are the add on lenses called "converters" and the lenses of the SLRs called...well...lenses​?

Granted this site brings out the hardware envy for those of us who wish we could afford/properly use SLRs, but we're all friends here! No need to get elitist !!! (joke)

Because the lenses for SLRs are complete of themselves, while what you attach to your S3 or other P&S merely modifies the existing lens. When a focal length multiplier's added to an SLR lens it's called a Teleconverter, so usage is consistent.

As always, Jon nailed it very well. But conversion lenses are nothing new. Some of us were using them on our TLR cameras decades ago.
