I'm pretty sure the iMac comes with 2 x 512 mb, not a single 1 gig stick. You'd have to buy two 1 gig sticks for 2 gigs. The question is, would that be less than have the iMac as a BTO with 2 gigs? The Apple upgrade is $175 and the OWC 2 gig kit is $152.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Mine came with a single 1 GB stick. I ordered a refurb, so YMMV.

I think we are on the same page. It is normally $700, but I should get it for $300 at school? Is that what you are saying? I think I understand. It sounds much cheaper at $300 then $700(thats what I was expecting to pay).

yes thats what im saying :D

Yup you are right it comes with 2x 512's
although the BTO with 2 gigs (2x 1 gig) about $50 more than if you bought two 1 gig sticks from else where.

If you do, Crucial & Samsung are the way to go from my previous experiences. Both are also OEM so quality is good

As a student you are crazy if you dont get one of the suites direct from Adobe. Personally I think that the $600 production suite is the best deal.

https://store1.adobe.com …48834&distributionOID=103 (external link)

Adobe After Effects® CS3 Professional
Adobe Premiere® Pro CS3
Photoshop® CS3 Extended
Flash® CS3 Professional
Illustrator® CS3
Soundbooth™ CS3
Encore® CS3

also includes Adobe Dynamic Link, Bridge CS3, Device Central CS3, Adobe OnLocation™ CS3 (Windows® only), and Ultra® CS3 (Windows only)

If you preorder the production suite you get the current shipping version today, which qualifies you for the AE and Premiere CS3 Betas, and they will ship you the final versions when they are done. As soon as the next rev of the Mac Book Pro hits, this is what I'm ordering.

Even if you dont see yourself using Premiere and AE a lot, the suite has a lot of other stuff to offer and its essentially like buying Photoshop at retail and getting all that other stuff for free. There are, of course, other cheaper bundles but this one really seems to have all the meat.

Canon 20D, Nikon D300 & assorted stuff...

Most people will never use premiere, after effects, soundbooth OR encore. They are much better off with one of the design suites with PS, Ill, DW, Acrobat etc.

I recommend you keep your eye on the certified used models. They come with the same warranty and can be quite a bit less. Then you can buy the memory you want after-market and it would be much cheaper.

Personally, if you are going to mess with getting more memory, I would max it out with the 1GB + a 2GB strip. That way you have all you need whenever you need it. The cost is okay with the after-market dealers, as you have linked to.

I just hope Ican afford to get this. If it comes down to getting this iMac or getting a few lenses, I may get the lenses. I have an old AMD 700mhz computer. You'd be surprised. It runs photoshop ok(it is slow). If I had more memory it would be better. It is at least usable. Not fast but usable. There is a lot of waiting when using filters.

Hey EOS Man, Get the Mac! I was an Apple Campus Rep, and can possibly get you the contact over there in FL for the Campus Rep. Check this page out for more info on what Apple does at universities. Apple Higher Education (external link)
I suppose you won't REALLY need the computer till the fall right? IF you can wait until late July early August, do it. There will most likely be new computers, lower prices, and new OS coming out (for sure in the fall). But, the cool part is every year Apple has a "Back to School" Promo. Basically if you buy a computer, you get a free iPod. I'd say it's worth it to wait if you aren't in a pinch for one now.
The student discount will save you a hundred or so dollars, and an iPod at a hundred or so.
Listen to these other guys, get the ram elsewhere! Apple, as you know, charges a premium OWC has the same exact modules.

Have fun and make the Switch! Send me a PM if you need specifics or want names for the FL reps
