Im sure thisis possible but how please???:

I want to append ametadata template on import

i.e. when I import RAW files into a particular folder I want Bridge +/or LR to append metadata to those new files either as they are imported or the first time they are viewed in that app.

As I understand it LRs metatdata isn't viewable in other apps but would bridge do this?

thanks

If I understand you corretly there is a section at the bottom of the Import Dialog box where you can select presets, metadata, and keywords to be added during import. In order for Bridge to see the metadata you will have to write out the XML, I think.

As Mike said you can adjust the settings at import, or even afterwards by selecting a bunch of photos and in the library, edit teh individual attributes in the metadata section of the right panel, but thats MUCH slower

So what's the best way to append metadata when importing RAW files, what's the best/easiest, how do you guys do it?
( that can be read in both LR and Bridge etc.)

first off, Bridge

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

Do all your stuff From LR. Thats the point of a DAM.

then I apply a custom setting I created upon import.

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

Just select that box and create a new template

Well that depends on the other apps and the settings you are using in Lightroom. CS3 should recognize it, but CS2 probably won't. Remember that LR is a database so all the info is stored in the database files unless you tell LR to store the info elsewhere.

You must remember to tick the "Automatically write changes to XMP" on the Edit->Preference->File Management tab in LR.

I have just imported a bunch of images that I tagged in Bridge (CS2) and all the metadata was read by Lightroom and it also added all the keywords into the library database as well.
