A while back, the French band "Babylon Circus" played in a sold out Atak.

A Youtube video of the gig can be found here (external link) (part 1) and here (external link) (part 2: in the hall)

All images here (external link)

Since the hall was packed, and there are no barriers, it was impossible to move to the front of the stage, and do anything meaningfull there (as I found out).
So most images were from the crowd, and the balcony (where I couldn't move much either).
Light was nice, although a bit low (since the band was moving quite a bit)

#1: Singers:

#2: Whole stage:

#3: Whole stage with a jump:

#4: From the crowd:
IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/070309BabylonCircus/source/image/rhd_20070309_baci_0394.jpg

#5: Longer time from a monopod, to get a bit more even illumination on the audience. I'm going to need a tripod for that...
IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/070309BabylonCircus/source/image/rhd_20070309_baci_0154.jpg

#6: One of the few from more up front. Some arms in the way even here...

#7: Guitarplayer:
IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/070309BabylonCircus/source/image/rhd_20070309_baci_0272.jpg

#8: The band walked onto the floor, and performed a few songs there (see 2nd YouTube video; I think I included the guy making the video, I don't think he included me...)

3 and 6 are my favorites, but i do like the diaphonous effect of the light through the white shirt in 7.

3 is great from a lighting color and action perspective. you've also done a nice job of exposing; i've been finding out that full stage shots are pretty tough to get a decent exposure w/o killing the highlights via over-exposure. did you blend adjusted RAW files?

How did you handle white balance on these... I always struggle with that in changing lighting like this. They look great to me.

Thanks all!

@convergent: WB: Shot RAW, adjusted to taste afterwards.
I usually start off with Tungsten, and adjust from there. Anywhere between 2500 and 5500 K, depending on lighting.

@narlus: Yep, all of the images posted here were a blend of at least two different conversions.

#1 is intense...with the three layers of subjects...pretty cool...

The composition in # two and # three is similar, with lots of action...

#4 is fantastic..

#5 is grand in stature... just more sharpness and focus of the stage performers would really strengthen the image...

#6 and #7 are strong and solid pics all around.

While # 8 encompasses the entire event very nicely....

#1 is cropped a little tight. The band looks awesome and the pictures are OK. (hehe!) How did they pack that huge crowd (the band) onto that little stage?

:o You make me blush..

On #5: Yep. It's at 1/8s. I should have told them to stand still ;)
I think a tripod would have helped, since then the stage and other stationary objects would have been still...

Yep. One of the reasons (the other being IS) I'm considering a 70-200 IS in the distant future... This is as wide as my 80-200 would go.

Hehehe. Probably involved a little shoving ;)

That's probabely why they ended up playing on the floor: They wanted more space

Anyone look at the Youtube videos?
