I'm suprised that I haven't seen a post about the shooting at Virginia Tech, although a tragic event, the memorial clips they were showing on the news look like a great(photographically) situation to capture. That last sentence might sound a little weird, but with all the updated news and pictures going on, I'm hoping to catch a little more personal insight from a photographer on this forum, so if you got some, post 'em!

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

There is a time to get the shot, and there is a time for respect. This is a time for respect, something most news reporters and photographers seem know nothing about. Today I saw a shot of a young lady in the paper kneeling on the grounds at Tech. trying to have a moment to morn or pray for those lost, and there were several "photographers" surrounding her trying to get "the perfect" morning shot. IMHO, jerks all of them!

Just another shutterbug.

Well I didn't mean annoying media getting in people's faces, it didn't even have to be on personal level with the people there, but a personal level for the photographer just trying to capture the scene from far. I don't mean to start any controversy, theres a lot of great photographers on this board and I bet they could capture the scene better then the media while maintaining the respect the media seems to lack.

Here is a link to one of the VT websites. The masthead picture is of the candle light vigil held on Tuesday night. I have set that image as my desktop background for a while. I did not post the image here because I did not take it.

Scroll down the page a bit and there is a link to the photo gallery that has been set up on that site

I guess I'll be one of those insensitive photographers that ya'll are bashing. I went to the memorial service in Richmond, VA since it's right outside of my dorm. I took pictures, and there were a bunch of other photogs there, some for the VCU paper, some from other news tabloids, etc.

I don't think the photographers are insenitive. Indeed photographs provide an unspoken commentary of the events at hand. A friend forwarded to me a picture album of some images he took at the candle light vigil this past Tuesday night. It was a very nice gesture and permitted me to feel somewhat how the participants felt as I was not there. What is annoying are the talking heads on the national media that need to be bashed.
