I only shoot track once a year, but each time I get to love it more. Here are some sample shots from my endevors. If you all haven't shot track, you should give it a whirl. Cheers.

Wow! These are really great. So crisp. Can I ask what you used to shoot with and what were your settings? I'm looking to shoot a little track and field (neighbors son runs hurdles).

Thanks,
Karman

Gah dude I want (need?) 300 2.8 in some form or fashion (I see you use the Sigma) so bad and you are NOT helping! :p

Good stuff with an ol' trusty. :)

PS: Do you ever find that combo (Siggy + 1D) lacking in any way?

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

The images are WOW! I'm amazed at the sharpness in the action shots. I can't get the info, what gear and settings did you use?

That 1D makes me jealous. The colors are so vivid! My sister ran track in high school so these pictures brought back memories.

Nice mix, Croasdail. Diggin' #2 & #5 the most. Gonna have to take your advice one of these days and catch a track meet.

Suzyview - my standard kit is a 1d with a Sigma 120-300 2.8 and a Canon 17-40 f4. I will occasionally use a 20d as well. I am looking forward to the 1d mk III so I have a little more cropping latitude as there is none with the old 1d.

PS: Do you ever find that combo (Siggy + 1D) lacking in any way?

For the most part, no. There is that odd time of day just before sunset the Sigma doesn't like. The color temp is very much different then the Canon lensesas well . Nothing a simple action in pp doesn't work out. The other thing I is the rear plate has begun to come loose and I have had to tighten it back up several times. A little annoying, but the flexibility of the lens more then compensates for it.

Thanks everyone else for your comments, much appreciated.

Good, sharp images. I like numbers 3 and 5 the best. Good mix of telephoto on #3 and wide angle on #5.

I just moved over to Canon...shot my first track meet ( HS, Div1) and thought the take was fairly good...then I joined this group, looked at your images, and realized I had a ways to go...These are just simply amazing. Yesterday was a cloudy/sunny day here in N. California, and most of my shots were underexposed, shooting in shutter mode. I appreciate your sharing your settings and I see that I was a stop or two too high.

Have to say this, I sold my D2x,and all Nikon gear, got a MK II, and I am delighted with the AF and low light capabilities. Have an 85mm 1.8 and a 200 2.8; 70-200 2.8 has been ordered.
I made the Big Switch, and I am now a committed Canon Guy. Just got to learn how to use it.

This looks like a great group, and I am glad I found it.

Best,
