Chris, I've taken a few test shots with the 50L and my lens was focusing at high f-stops towards the bottom of the frame (I believe that's backfocusing).
The primary reason I sent my 7D in for was calibration due to it having some focusing issues in low light.
I sent my 50L in as well because if you want to properly do microadjustments in camera you have to send in both the lens and the camera together. As I understand it though, people can perform this action quite easily on their own. I just figured since I was already sending the camera in for calibration I could kill two birds with one stone.
As an update, I just heard back from Canon and there was in fact an issue with my AF system which was fixed by Canon. The 50mm 1.2 however was found to not require any adjustments.
I'll take some test shots when I get my camera back and see how it performs! I'm excited! If I begin to obtain the results that some of our other members have achieved after having sent their gear into Canon for a solution I think I'll be on the right track!
