The shot above is with a little unsharp mask applied shot wide open at 1.2. It would have been a better photo at around F4 but I wanted to see how well I can do wide open. I was not impressed with the 24-70 when I first got it but over time I learned to accept the fact that there is more to life then sharpness so this may end up staying in my bag after all. Its so much more accurate at focusing then the 1.4.

Like most good things if you put some work into it you should get a lot out.
When I first got the 85mm f1.2 I was playing with the front and back focus mode on the 5D MKII thinking it wasnt focusing right but in the end I set it back to 0 as that was the sweet spot.
What I found I was doing was using the centre focusing point to lock focus, then I might move the subject into the rule of thirds (left or right of the image) this very small movement just took the edge off the sharpness at very small apertures, I still do the same but I'am aware of what I'm doing now, I just wish the other focusing points worked as well as the centre.
Another thing that can kill a L prime image especially in a high contrast situations is a UV filter, now I know it keeps the front element safe but I have found they cause all sorts of problems with contrast, focusing, flare, so please be aware if you have one fitted and are having problems this might be the cause.

The camera is just a storage box, it's the gLass in front that makes the image...

I've been noticing with mine that if the background is complicated it will screw up the focus, but if I'm relatively close and close to wide open I have almost zero issues. Mine doesn't seem to like to work very well wide open at a distance.

Regardless I still always enjoy using this lens and I try to find every opportunity to do so.
