Just got my 50L today! Took a couple shots with this and so far I am very happy with it. Was kicking myself for selling my EF 50/1.4, but I'm not feeling all that bad at the moment =). Below is a test shot. Date code is UY0808 for those that are wondering.

5DII, f/1.2, 1/250s, iso 400.

IMAGE: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4030/5159954903_d9a7ab5db9_b.jpg

100% crop, focused on "USM" in the first line. Handheld.

It isn't blistering sharp, but sharp enough for me not to complain. I'll see what MA can do, but this is currently with 0 adjustment.

^ Love the series, John... The dancefloor shot of them kissing is a great candid!!!

:)

Thanks. The dance floor shot was one of my favorites from the reception. Had my partner holding the opposing light and chasing me around the floor. We got several good backlit snaps, then I saw this view open up in front of me. Can't plan shots like that. :)

Hey Guys,
I should hopefully be a member of this thread as from tomorrow, My 50 L is being delivered brand new with a date code of 2010 "UY" so lets hope there is no focusing issues.
Mainly bought it for my wedding photography but hopefully get some great family snaps through it too.
Was looking at 2nd hand ones for a while on eBay but some prices were ridiculous for the condition, one had "obvious signs of use" and the seller wanted £950.00! and got it!!!
I see it like this, I have got mine for £999.00 with a UK invoice and 1 years warrentee, I can use it for 30-50 weddings next year, look after it as I do all my gear and if it isnt what I thought it was or dont use it as much as I thought I will probably get around £100.00 less at worst than what I paid, Cheapest lens hire around!!!
I'll try to get some first shots on soon.

The camera is just a storage box, it's the gLass in front that makes the image...

Murkey, its fast becoming my favorite. I just had to give it some time and work with it for a while. I am amazed at the performance at 1.2.

Hey Tommy,
Glad your starting to like it, cant wait for mine - feel like a 6 year old at Christmas!!
Its bit of a no brainer really with the price I'm paying new to what they go for 2nd hand but I really love my 85 f1.2 also but as I said previously its just little long some times and the greater field of view would really suit me at weddings.
Have you got any shots on the thread yet??

I think I put 1 in this thread, really I was just testing it and I actually wish I had the shot at around F4 but it does create some bokeh. I want to try it out more outdoors stopped down a bit to see how it does but I just have not had time.

I can really recommend this lens. I have just haved the 85L 1.2 II its sure is a great lens.. This one dosn´t have quite the same Q but its close. The 50 L is much more useful for my needs.. It focuse very great in low light. It has a very quick AF contra 85 L.. It sure is a great lens..

this photo is taken wide open:- )

^Amazing light, bokeh, and focus! I am such a sucker for dog photos... Haha Great work.

I re-processed this one, because my first edit was not very good. This one's wide open, too. Great lens...
