I purchased this lens early Feb 2011. It literally has not been removed from my 5D Mkii since. (I have a brand new 70-200 in it's box, still unopened.)

This lens is so much fun to use.

Instead of loving things and using people, why not use things and love people? :-)

How does this lens stack up to 85L II in terms of AF speed and focus?

It's a wee bit faster and a wee bit more accurate. But the 85IIL has no machanical link between the focus ring and the motor so the feel is very different

I am getting ready to go on holiday to national parks in the US, so I was testing all my lenses. Just for fun, I tested the 50L's resolution at f1.2. Everyone knows it is quite soft at MFD, but it really shines at a distance.I did some elementary sharpening and lens corrections in lightroom, just to show what is feasible in some 2 seconds of PPing. For the rest, it is straight out of camera.

My first engagement session with it. I thought you deserved a little more than just around the house cant and flower pics.

Noob question, when your shooting on a bright sunny day and you want to use f 1.2 for the bokeh background. Do you guys use a ND filter so everything isn't blown out?
