I have set my eyes on sig85, then looking again at some awesome images from this thread really making me think again. I have the 35L and 135L on 5d2 and gonna need something in between the gap.

I like the canon for its tone and character and mostly the lens itself is just so sexy.

I like the sigma for its sharpness wide open, less distortion etc...

read about the focus shift issue on 50L does it really bad? I mean I have seen lots and lots of nice pictures taken wide open in this thread, and some have been using it past f4 and have no problems with it (at least what my eyes sees)

It's easy to miss with the 50L due to it's shallow depth of field. I use AI servo and don't have very many missed shot. When I do it's usually my fault.

It's not as bad as some would have you believe. I only see it on mine below f/2.8 and never when it's wide open. As the last poster suggested use AI servo and take multiple shots just to be sure.

ETA: Alos I find back button focusing to be very helpful as well.

I'd rather have a slight (but predictable) focus shift than a lens that may or may not focus properly at all. I never have good luck with Sigma products and their customer service to me was less than acceptable.

I vote 50L ;)

^^^Agreed. I have not had a problem with this lens at all and find it plenty sharp at 1.2. Right after the 35L, this is my most used lens.

Shot of my niece taken at 1.2

thanks for the inputs guys

I have used only one sigma in the past, and that is the sig50 on a nikon body. It was focussing accurately.

what does it mean, predictable focus shift? to prevent focus shift one has to focus manually within that aperture range am I correct?
