no.2 is sharper to me but just by a tiny hair.

I'm wondering if the editing looks ok for this one, or if the photo is distracting. I like it but then again I don't.

^^^I think it looks great^^^

BryantFC, If you look at the original size on Flickr, looking at the little eye-loop hole above the pendant....the first one seems a tad sharper,

But.....why not just use a chart? focustestchart.com/focus21.pdf (external link)

I use this on all my lenses, works great, I do it hand held (should probably use a tripod, but, I've never really had to), take 10 or 20 test shots and I'm done.

Ah! thanks. i totally forgot about this chart. Did a couple more tests. I showed a few other friends and they do agree that the first one is the sharper one. That's actually at 0 MA. The second was at +5 MA.

Quick help fellow 50L owners! My eyes obviously suck but can either of you guys let me know which one of these are sharper? One of them is MA..

The first one is definitely sharper on the pendant. It makes sense that the second is +5 MA, being that the fine hairs at 10 o'clock behind the pendant are sharper, in that instance.

Whoa, that's right. Didn't even notice that. I guess my copy is a good one if i don't have to MA it.

Beautiful model, interesting setting, great expression and feeling, and the lighting is terrific! The white of the dress is well done!

My heron sucks compared to this.

Thank you for the kind words :)

You will have to worry about MA. Buy it brand new, locally, do a test in the store to see if it works to your liking, and if not see if they have another copy.

I bought mine last year and I don't have any issues with it.

He'd have to be pretty unlucky I'd say. I've never had to return/cherry pick to get a proper working "L" series lens, the 50L included. Late model "semi-pro" bodies of course have lens micro-adjustments to help make up for the differences in manufacturing tolerances. If you shoot wide open with very shallow depths of field MFA is something that you should do as standard practice.
