Killdeer Trio - Almost

These eggs should hatch in about 3 weeks. Hopefully I can be around for the birthday party.

Wow, what a beautiful set of eggs, hope you did not disturb the parents in getting the shot. They usually get very defensive.

dancinec, I was careful not to disturb the parents. I waited until they left the nest to take the pictures. In fact they were gone so long I thought they had abandoned the nest. The nest is in the middle of a consruction area and we often have workers moving around the nest. We put some large rocks near the nest as markers to make sure no one stepped on the eggs. The parents are tolerating us pretty well and hopefully I will be there to get some pictures of the newborns.

Usually the adults will flop around and act injured to draw you away from the eggs..

The eggs look almost like the rocks. Did you get any shots of the birds? That seems like a great opportunity.

My G3 doesn't have a long enough lens for me to get a recognizable shot of the parents. If I get within 50 feet of the nest the parent on the nest goes into its wounded bird routine and moves away so I am trying to stay away from the nest for now.
