In the last few days we’ve heard all sorts of things about the 1D MkII, and the fact that they’re starting to show up, albeit in very limited quantities. Things we know for sure:
B&H had a few
Samy’s has some (as many as 100, depending on which story you choose to believe)
There’s a truckload of them somewhere in New Jersey, but Tony Soprano has all those.
No word from CDW where mine is ordered.
There’s one in New Zealand.
Fred Miranda has one.
And so forth.
I thought I’d add what I’ve heard in the last couple days.
1. San Jose Camera expects to get two of them early next week. Both are already sold but not yet paid for.
2. Keeble & Schuchat is expecting some in this week, but they’re already spoken for.
3. I ran into a Canon rep at Keeble & Schuchat who said that he doesn’t expect a serious backlog on deliveries. He believes that all initial orders will be filled no later than sometime in June, and that the current large numbers of back-ordered cameras are partially a result of people putting in reservations with more than one dealer. He also confirmed that the early production was almost entirely devoted to direct customers (major newspapers and news services) before any were shipped to stores.
4. The camera is still largely a mystery to most camera store employees. Most have never seen one and have little knowledge of the features other than the ‘headline items’ (resolution, burst speed, etc.).
It is frustrating to hear that a dealer in Southern California supposedly had 100 of them, especially because I live there and would happily have driven into L.A. to get one. Unfortunately I am in Northern California for the weekend, and so far, none appear to have made it this far yet.
Any other news?

not.
