I just had the best time with these two kids! They were so cute and sweet! The little boy was hilarious! He would look at me, or he would smile so big. But he would not do both at the same time!!!! Anyway I would just love to know any tips on getting kids to smile big at the camera and not everywhere else?

funny you should mention dogs! In the one's where he is smiling, it's because he's throwing a ball to his dog. Do you ever care how dumb you must look to all the adults? Does it ever get easier?

Which of these do you like better? Why? What would you have done to improve them? (Fill flash excluded.)

The light looks like it was an issue, other than that both poses are nice, LOVE the matching balloon/headband. I prefer the first image.

I'm going to get an 85mm f1.8 lens pretty soon. Will that produce much sharper images than these under similar circumstances? Anyone know???

These don't appear not sharp, but if you were using a zoom most primes will be sharper. There's no exif.

I think the shots with the boy are really cute.

I can't decide on a favorite picture with the girl in the pink headband. The first one is fun and punky, the second is sweet and innocent. Tough choice!
