Noob Question: When shooting in RAW with my 400D, how do I get the pictures from my memory card to the computer? They're not showing up when I plug in the USB cord.

Is it better to shoot in RAW or RAW+JPEG?

Is that on the CD that comes with the camera? I'm not sure what that is.

What post processing program are you using? With your camera you should have gotten Canon DPP, Zoombrowser and EosViewer. All of which will help.

Well, I haven't installed anything from the CD onto my computer. All I've done is plug in the USB cord and use one of the Microsoft default programs. Then I look at them more closely in Photoshop 7.

So I'm not using any of the three mentioned above.

The best way is to spend $20 on a card reader. Then the card reader just shows up like a drive under Windows Explorer.

Well then I would believe that you would have to load the CD from Canon as I dont think Photoshop 7 supports CR2

Another way is to use the eos utility that is on the cd. Don't run the program. Just plug in usb and turn on your camera. A lot of people like to do it this way as it will write the files into a dated directory for you. On the 30D it will also write only new files if you wish. Don't know about 400.
