Just looks to me like macro photography and some standard PP and color adjustments .

Maybe she used a +10 close-up lens.

Thanks, but I'm not so sure myself. As to macro or close-up, look at the second link in the OP. My first impression was that it was done with simple shallow DOF. However, if that is the case, the lens has got to have the world's best bokeh. I have never seen bokeh so smooth, so gradual. Is it possible it is shallow dof, but that the bokeh was smoothed out? Or perhaps some sort of a radial/gradated blurring fron the outside to center? /Dan

Looks like just a normal macro shot to me, I dare say pretty much any of the available dedicated macro lenses could duplicate this shot, I don't see any PP out of (what I assume) the normal color correction etc that was done.

and smear vaselene...

Commonly known as a "grease job". Better to use KY Jelly, as it's water soluble.

Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION
Camera Model: NIKON D200
Image Date: 2007:03:19 14:00:36
Flash Used: No
Focal Length: 105.0mm
Exposure Time: 0.013 s (1/80)
Aperture: f/3.8
ISO equiv: 100
Exposure Bias: -0.33
Metering Mode: Matrix
Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto)
# Software/Firmware Version = Adobe Photoshop CS2 Windows
# Last Modified Date/Time = 2007:04:02 22:17:09

Although you can photoshop in DOF lens blur the use of f/3.8 would seem accurate for the shallow DOF in the image and suggests no photoshoped focus alterations...

That nikon 105mm is a very special lens.
I have the original non-ai version
It did not earn the designation "The Lens From Outter Space!" for nothing...
No worries though, it can easily be used on the EOS cameras.
I believe PhotosGuy has this lens as well...

True. I like it a lot. Used it for these, except for the 1st one: Detroit Zoo butterfly shots 2-17-07

Thanks to all for the replies. Been away for a while and did not see them. Good suggestions. I have a decent 1:1 Tamron macro but have very rarely use it. Guess I'll have to give it a try. Good point, PhotosGuy. It's the devil to remove that standard vaseline. So tell me, if one used the new KY product (Warming Gel) would that "warm" the white balance? (sorry, couldn't resist). /Dan

Macro flower photography at it's best. Requirements: a good eye for color, composition & lighting. That's most of what it takes to do photos like those referred to by OP.

Just guessing, but it might warm yours? :D

For a more subtle "grease job", the oil from around your nose or forehead works fairly well.
