I use rawshooter essentials because my computer is relatively slow and I like the interface of this program.

However, its made a whole wack load of jpegs that are like 7-8mbs large. Why is that? Can I make it make them smaller?

I need to now convert them into smaller files. How should I do that?

Go into RawShooter and tell it to reduce the quality of the JPGs it puts out. Or use the PhotoShop image processor to save them at lower quality.

Thanks! Just out of curiosity, how big should I make the file if I want to blow the picture up really big?

The thing is that I want to make the jpegs as small as possible but want to have them such that I can later blow them up if I want to.

THanks
Ben

You can't have it both ways. The more you compress the file (make it smaller), the more you lose quality. The loss may not be discernable in a 4x6 but it will be in a large print. As a matter of fact, if you want maximum quality you should convert the RAW to a tif, not a jpg, but then you will get a very big file. What I would suggest is making somewhat compressed jpgs now for small prints or web posting and - assuming you are saving your RAWs, which you should always do - when you are ready to print big make another conversion to a high quality file, make your print and then delete the large file.

Yeah, I agree... its finding the space for all those raw files thats that hardest!

Maybe I should just put the on dvd and deal with the risks involved.

Maybe in 5 years I'll be able to afford a 2000GB harddrive or something insane like htat.

I do both. Burn to DVD and save to external HD.
