Took these images this morning at a local area well known for attracting a wide range of shorebirds, gulls, waterfowl, etc. This morning we saw the Glossy Ibis, Greater Yellowlegs, Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal, Ruddy Ducks, a variety of gulls including Lesser Black-backed and Iceland Gulls.

This location isn't a pond or a wetlands. It is a bowl like area in a farmer's field that collects water during the rainy season and attracts all these wonderful birds. In the dog days of summer, it dries out.

Alas it looks like the developers have won another round and this area is destined to become a golf course with condos. Just what we freakin' need!!:evil: With Earth Day this weekend, all I can say is that I hate developers!

Anyway these shots were taken at long distance from the road and across the catchment area. Thanks for looking and hope you enjoy them.

C&C welcome and appreciated.

Nice place you've got there to take bird pics.
In #4 the gulls look bigger than the Ibis, is that a fact or just me thinking the Ibis was about three feet tall.
I think I would have cropped them a bit so we could see them a bit closer. But great pics, thanks for showing.

Thanks Scrumpy. First off, I can't believe just one comment. I am beginning to wonder if it is even worth posting sometimes.

The Glossy Ibis is a little smaller - around 22-23 inches. I had the same reaction when I caught my first glimpse of the Ibis. I thought he looked really small.

I thought about my crop on these since the Ibis was clear across the "pond" and I did crop pretty significantly already. So I decided the leave be as is.

Again thanks for the comment.

Nice captures Ed, I would love to see one of these someday. It does look like you have a great birding spot there. And dont give up on the posts, this time of year some people dont have time to reply to all of the posts. I started back to work this past week and after 6 days of 10 hour shifts I couldnt stay awake long enough to read all of the post let alone reply.;) Your posts are always worth looking at so keep them coming.

Thanks for the kind words, Trevor. I really appreciate it. I just figured that the Glossy Ibis was unusual enough to garner a few more comments. The birds were a long way off but I thought the images turned out ok.

Six ten-hour days is quite a haul. Hope you get a couple of days off.

Thanks Karen. Glad you liked the images. This is the first Glossy Ibis that I have seen. They are basically a coastal bird but are starting to work their way northward and inland a bit.
