Your 400D XTi will take a 4 GB card. It will take CF cards and CF Micro drive cards also. Usually the difference in price has to do with quality and speed. The more expensive cards will burn the image on to them at a fast rate then the cheaper ones. And when you go to a kodak picture machine or something to print your images, faster is a lot better.

I would go with SanDisk Ultra II or III as they have always been good to me.

PicStop ( http://www.picstop.co.uk/ (external link) ) are doing a Sandisk 4Gb Extreme III for £42.90. They are based in the Isle of Man, delivery is very quick, and I can vouch that their products are genuine, not forgeries (as a lot of cards advertsied on ebay are).

I can also recommend picstop - I ordered a 4GB Sandisk from them, and it arrived the very next morning - great service . . . .

I've got an 8gb for my 350d. There are two speeds to take into consideration, read and write speed. If you leave the card in the camera you won't get much benefit from having one of the really fast ones. If you have 4gb there is a significant difference between the slower ones and the faster ones, but only if you use a seperate card reader. The more reputable brands like Sandisk, Kingston etc quote their speeds so you can compare.

I bought a transcend 120x 8GB card for under £50 through amazon, works a treat and really fast!
