Male Bluebird (This Much is Certain!!!)

Every once in a while we are blessed with a poser. I must have been with this guy for a good 15 minutes and took about 50 images of him as he bounded back and forth. I was even able to move a bit closer without him flying off.

I hope you enjoy this series of images. I'd like to hear your comments - good or bad.

He's a beauty, Ed, and nicely captured. Congrats on the photo op.

Great series, the last one sticks out as the winner for me, but all nice captures. If you havent cropped these yet Ed, you could crop to get the bird to fill a little more of the frame, the last two are a good size IMHO. You are getting lots of detail in your shots, must be using that 400 f 5.6. I need one of them.

I really like "Me and my Shadow". Great captures!

Thanks for the comments. I am glad you all enjoyed he images. It is so seldom that I come across a poser like this. I like all the shots but #1, 4, 5, and 6 just a little more.

I am a little leary to crop more that I already do. On most of these, I crop from 3456x2304 down to 1500x1200 pixels which is a heavy crop. I am reticient to crop any more even though the image looks like it can handle it. I can take a 1500x1200 to a pretty nice 10x8 by the way. The image holds up well.

Thanks Phil. Yes #1 was one of the early images and it seemed he was watching me watching him. Then he resumed his normal activities. And I really like the way the shadow worked out on #5. Too often I end up in a backlit situation and the only shadow to speak of is the one falling on the face of the bird. This one worked out well.

I think you saved the best for last. Very nice series.

Very nice. Are there nest boxes for these birds where you were shooting? I never saw any of these around here until I found a park with several nest boxes, and there were quite a few there. Good job.
