Some Small Bird Closeups

These are from my yard. I haven't been out in days, so I had to shoot something.

A Chipping Sparrow that is getting very tame. He sometimes comes too close.

I'd check that lens for peck marks, Mitch. Now that's close. Very nice but almost scary!

Wow, Mitch setting the bar a little higher.. Excellent captures, is that with your big Sigma 500? What is the minimum focus distance?

Couldn't you get a close-up view???? wow, now that is close!

Thanks Ed and Dennis and Karen. Yes, the Bigma, but the top one is at 313mm, and the bird is almost close enough to touch. Very strange little bird. It's only about twice the size of a peanut and comes to this post feeder about 3 feet from the window. I mean, he can see me, and I talk to it, but he just ignores me. so minimum focus distance at 300mm is about 3 feet or so. The others are further away, the Cardinal being about 25 feet, the rest about 14 feet.

Nice close ups, really shows the feather details... I was a bit scared when I opened up this post, they almost jumped out of the monitor at me.

Thanks Nymphalidae and Trevor. Well, the little chipper does sort of lunge. There's no way to catch it on a still camera though. I'd love to have a decent video camera so I could catch some of the little actions these birds do. Like the chipper, he steps forward, then hops back, dragging his feet to stir up the grass or seeds or insects. But how to catch that on a still camera?

nice close up mitch how do you like the semi macro on the lens i thinks it 1.5mtrs @300mm does come in handy for the face shots.
