Would you like to know how your profile compares to others?
Do you want to know how wide a gamut you have?

I do!

(Actually I just want to know how my monitor compares to yours) But once I have a couple profiles I will generally describe my findings in terms of models and brands.

All you have to do is send me your ICC prifile of your monitor.

It would help if you named the profile as:
YourNickname_MonitorBrand_MonitorMODEL_COLORIMETER.ICC

In the end I will be able to actually say: "dells have a small/large gamut and such/such cheap model really seems to stand out and this one is overpriced"

Send me your monitor profile, appropriately named to:

GamutFromPOTN at yahoo dot com

Once I get enough profiles, I will post the results.

Thanks

Wouldn't you need the graphics card associated with the monitor so as to compare?

For Windows XP, you can find the .icm files in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color

I don't know about Vista or Mac, but I think Windows2000 and Vista are the same.

To be sure, Doc wants custom profiles made with a calibration device. If you didn't create a custom profile and give it a descriptive name, it'll be hard to tell which profile your system is using for your monitor.

As a matter of fact, unless you're using the Windows Color Control Panel Applet, I don't know how to tell what profile Windows is using. Maybe somebody else does.

Absollutely not.

The gamut does depend on the graphic card somewhat, but you get what you get. In the end the colorimeter sees the colors, measures them and all I see is a LAB blob telling me how much a the monitor/card combination can actually display.

Control Panel/Display/Advanced/Color Management will show you, but if it hasn't been changed from the Windows default it will be sRGB.

I don't really know, to be honest.

If you can soft proof with them in photoshop, then I can use it.

Yeah - ICC and ICM files are identical. (It's one of those Microsoft things - they didn't want to use the standard ICC extension, so they used ICM).
