I Manage to get a couple but the weather was not ideal i had to go up to 250iso to keep a shutter speed around 1/1000 sec at f4.
the new camera worked fine but i really need clear blue sky to give it a proper chance at fast mover's
Rob.

So Rob, how are you finding the 5D for shooting birds? Does the no crop factor make that much of a difference? And this is a 12.8mp sensor, right? Just asking cause I'll never be able to afford a 1D, but I saw a used 5D in the sell forum at a price I could afford, almost. :D

I really like this camera and at 12.8 mp's the iq is very good the camera does everthing fast and is always ready for the next shot .
the AF is fast but the light today was not best for BIF although i nailed a few so im hopeing next time it's a nice clear blue sky.
i do know the mk2 really does focus quicker by a fair bit but that i already knew.
i still intend to get a mk3 as i dont think you could get anything better for BIF .
although you lose the crop factor the 5d lets you crop and pull most of that back .
Rob

Well, I know I've said it a hundred times, but what really impresses me about all the 5 and 1D pictures posted here is the exceptionally clean bokeh they produce. No, or almost no noise at all. I assumed that was from the 12+mp sensors, but then, I see the same thing from the older 1D's with 8.2mp sensors. So I guess that means the software in the camera is better than the 10 series has, since the 30D also has a 8.2 sensor but shows a lot more noise than the older 8.2 1D's.

Rob, i've been reading your 5d threads with interest, as i've been working more than going out taking pictures i'm in need of some retail therepy and as the chances of getting a 1DmkIII quickly are about as easy as winning the lottery i've also been looking at a 5d.

your pictures are good and will only get better as you get use to the camera.......;)

are you using it with the extra battery grip? and whats the balance like when fitted to the 500mm ?

these were taken with the 300f2.8isL , i dont use the grip not even on my 400d.
the 500 feels a bit front heavy for hand holding but i dont find it a problem you just learn to use / live with it even after only a day of useing the combo.
and the delay is why i went to the 5d lol
Rob

yes i alway's do PP and this often includes NoiseWare even if im on iso 100
the reason is simpley because i view the raw image as just part of the process the negative for want of a better word.
doing PP work is all part of the fun to me, trying to get the best out of what i photograph - although sometimes i mess up lol

I'm getting more into PP myself lately. I mean, I have CS2 and I've now bought 2 books for it, so I figured I might as well. I'm also using the NeatImage plugin and find it pretty easy to go back over the bird with the History Brush to bring the sharpness back to just the bird. NeatImage can make that bokeh look almost as good as a 1D. ;)
