I got this shot this morning, I seen him fly on the post and had some pine trees to cover the distance with. These are hand held, and I have lots that did not turn out as well. I was starting to think, I blew a good oppertunity. rw

Nice shots of the Cooper's with its meal, rw. I think your shutter speed (1/800s) should be fast enough for handheld unless the camera shake was really severe.
One note, when shooting subject against background (woodland) like this, you don't need to increase your EC to +0.7. Only do that if the bg is snow or bright sky. EC=0 or -1/3 should be enough for these hawk images ;).
Nice job rw.

Nice shot, and one less starling is always a good thing.

Thanks Trevor, I have seen others with these shots, and still can't believe I got them, I saw him later in the day, I was out fishing, but he buzzed right on by.

Thanks again cfcRebel, I have copied and paste the above info again and filed it, and will put it to use to continue improving.

Thanks VI and hTr for the compliments, it helps one to continue and try harder. It is a frustrating task at times for me, mostly because of lack of knowledge of my equipment and abilities. All of which are my own fault, because I get lazy, and just want to take off and get some pictures without understanding all there is too it, now I am not sure if I will ever get it all in to this brain here.
