Seems like there is so much conversation around the threads about sharpening. I personally don't do this often, am I missing something?

Are there certain types of photographs that you always or never sharpen? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Tom

I shoot RAW and I sharpen 100% of my pictures, all that differs is the amount and the process which is dependent on the final output of the shot.

I have some actions that I made in CS2 but have got a little lazy in my old age so I mostly use Nik Sharpener Pro™ 2.0 (external link)

I really don't care about sharpening. I leave it on 50 or 25 in the raw converter and leave it at that for low iso shots.

When it starts increasing noise in ISO800+ pictures I usually turn it off.

100% of mine are sharpened. I had been using USM but recently switched to high pass sharpening. It makes a world of difference in my shots.

As I shoot RAW almost exclusively, I always sharpen. I use the Nik Sharpener Pro.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

What do you want changed and I'll do it.

I'm thinking the "100%" option needs an edit, .. I don't know what the "software does it automatically" means..

Wow. I never used the high pass filter for sharpening before, Liza. Just gave it a go and I like it. Thanks!

Virtually 100% for me, I almost always shoot raw and it's just the nature of DSLR's.

100% are sharpened with USM. But that doesn't mean that I sharpen everything in the shot. Here, in shots 2, 3, & 4, it was just the head: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?p=2043546
